In December of 2016, I attended Northland Church’s Christmas Camp. The event lasted from December 28 through January 1 and took place in Jasper, Georgia. This year I served Christmas Camp as one of the members of Work Crew. I was extremely grateful to be able to participate in this amazing and enlightening event. Not only did I serve these high school students to the best of my ability but I was able to take time to mature as well. The purpose of Christmas Camp is to give high school students a retreat where they can strengthen their relationship with God and enjoy themselves.

My role as a Work Crew member was mainly to serve food. The main tasks assigned dealt with work in the kitchen. I was originally assigned to the evening and night shift which meant I would only be a server during the morning. The first morning I served, I was assigned four different tables. One of the main issues was maneuvering around the tables with trays covered in plates, both clean and dirty. Subsequently, Work Crew redressed the tables. After helping with the tables, I was sent into the kitchen to start preparing the food for dinner. The main tasks included cutting, chopping, and getting other foods ready for later. The tasks took several hours to complete but were not very hard for me to complete. When dinnertime came around, I had to plate the food we had prepared and refill the plate of the servers whose tables asked for seconds.

I feel that through experiencing the Work Crew side of Christmas Camp, I have learned so much about my team members. Each of them have their own strengths and weaknesses but we all worked extremely well together. All of work crew contributed to the team and we were extremely efficient together. Additionally, because I have been one of those high school students I was serving, I learned to be much more appreciative of the people who have served me beforehand. I never realized how much work they put into Work Crew. I am extremely grateful for this experience.
